Knitting

Yesterday while I was watching Breakfast News, they had a report on how the Shetland Knitwear industry is dying out due to lack of knitters. I tried to find the article to link to it but there doesn’t seem to be one
Anyway, since that report, BBC News has had an influx of young people saying that they knit and they have 3 of them on the sofa today.
Knitting is one of these crazes that seems to have come right back in again. It is cool again. I like to knit. I am not very good at it as I can only really do one (possibly 2) different stitches. But I can do it. And I have made a scarf and am more than half way through a blanket (even though progress has stopped on this due to lack of time …)
It is a nice, relaxing, undamaging hobby to take up. I am not a member of any of these new “cool knitter” groups who go into pubs and do it. I am even too shy to take my knitting on the train due to the funny looks I will inevitably get. However, I do enjoy it. I like all my needle crafts. I am nearly finished a crochet blanket and have made many items using crochet. I have my cross stitch which I enjoy. These are no longer “old people” hobbies. They are fun, interesting and relaxing. And at the end of it, you actually have something that you are able to say “I made that”. I love that feeling ![]()
So yes, knitting is cool.
