Smoking Ban in Scotland
Posted By Laura on March 26, 2006
Well, today is the day that the Smoking Ban comes into effect in Scotland [news.bbc.co.uk]. It will be extremely interesting to see what happens with regards to it. I am pleased that Government’s are banning it in public, enclosed spaces. It means I can go out to a pub or whatever and not come back stinking of cigarette smoke. This was always the worst thing about going out on the town, or even to a pub for lunch.
In the article, one person has, quite narrow-mindedly said, that the ban will give a warm glow to those who enjoy telling others what to do. This angers me. I get annoyed with all these people that say that the ban “infringes human rights” as you are telling people what to do, or something similar. However, what “right” is it for these people to make me ill and smell every time I want to go to the pub for a drink or go out to a club for a bit of a boogie? None whatsoever. I don’t choose to have lots of smoke blown all over me. It happens because of other people.
Anyway, rant over. I am pleased with this. I just can’t wait for it to come in place in England
