Entrelac

Well, since my last entry, there has been many decisions, purchases and new ideas in the pretty in purple knitting home. I completely frogged my Thuja, I bought lots of new yarn for various projects, and I learnt a new skill.
First, the Thuja. I decided that the yarn was way too thick and chunky for my socks. I also realised that I had bought lovely yarn for socks for me, but none for David. So, we sat down, looked through Get Knitted [getknitted.com] and we decided to find some nice yarn for his Thuja socks. Eventually, we decided on this:

This is from Collinette range and is 100% merino wool. It is a lush, ‘dusk’ colour. And I am looking forward to knitting his socks with them. Once I have wound them up, that is :/
Taking advantage of their sale, I decided to buy some yarn for other projects I have in the pipeline! I purchased this:

… for the queen of cups socks from knitty [knitty.com]. It is beautiful Rowan 4ply soft 100% merino wool. I just need to convert the chart into something slightly more manageable, I reckon. Never read a chart before, so I think converting it will make my life easier.
I also purchased this:

… for the gorgeous Eowyns armwarmers from the Rowan 38 [englishyarns.co.uk]magazine. They are absolutely lucious, but there is no picture to show you. Mmmmmm.
This weekend, I also learnt a new skill. I learnt how to do entrelac [woolworks.org]. It is a wonderfully easy technique that I was expecting to be much harder. I used this basic pattern written by Dave at CriminyJickets [criminyjickets.blogspot.com] and it was so simple and easy to follow. It is just a basic garter stitch version, but but uses the same techniques. And here is what I came up with:

and close up:

I have also decided to scrap my sudoku blanket (I wasn’t happy with the squares – they weren’t the same size :( ) and use the yarn to make a ‘garterlac’ blanket instead. I was so impressed with it, and it is my sort of knitting as it is lots of little squares in one – I like doing things in sections.
I’d better get knitting – lots of things to do!
But it’s so much fun :D

  1. Wow your entrelac looks really great! Normally I don’t like the look of entrelac, but that is quite stunning. NOW I may need to learn that. :)
