Purses

A while back (about last summer, probably) I made a purse-y thing. It was going to be a small, pocket purse but I didn’t have a zip the right size so just improvised with some spotty material I had an what zips I did have. I decided to just have a play. And I came away with this:
It is fully lined and I was really pleased and impressed with myself. I was going to make more, the right sort of size, but the phased passed me by (or I got a job – I can’t remember – it was ages ago!).
Yesterday, after having a good ol’ clean, I decided to get ye olde sewing machine out again for a spin. And yep, you guessed it, I decided to make purse-y things! Last night, I reaquainted myself with the ‘pattern’ for the purse and I made this one:
As you can see, it is large enough for a credit card lengthways, and again, fully lined. Not completely happy with the zip, but I’m happy enough with it. In fact, happy enough, I would give it away as a present. I was inspecting an old Accessorize purse and I don’t think they are as well made as these – you can see all the seam lines and everything. With this one, you can only see one, and you have to really look for it!
Today, I decided to experiment a bit more and I made a larger one. This one is large enough for my small DPNs, cable needles, crochet hooks, stitch markers etc etc. And it was more complicated because I needed to make sure the stripy pattern matched up.
The zip, again, is not quite right, and I think that is because it has a plastic coating at the bottom to make it a ‘closed’ zip. Never fear, I have lots more zips on order from eBay!
All in all, I am quite pleased with myself. Think I shall make some more. They are quite quick to come up – they took me about 2 hours each, which isn’t bad from start to finish
I do like the ones you put on here. I like the size of the stripey one. So that it would fit into my knitting bag and also I have the large stitch holders which can be put in there as well.
I especially like that striped one. Looks very professional.
My sewing machine hasn’t seen the light of day since 2002! Maybe I should get it out to see if it still works.
