What to do!

What do you do when you don’t know what to knit? Crochet!
I learnt to crochet before knitting, really. About 12 years ago, I had to do some sort of needlework / yarn work for home economics at school and I picked up crochet. I made a funky crocodile (that I still have!). At the time, I made loads of little squares for an afghan (I wonder where they went … ) and a baby blanket as well as a second crocodile and snail as presents for my little cousins. However, I was 14 and crochet wasn’t ‘cool’ so it went on the backburner. Not really picked it up since, despite 2 years ago buying Stitch n Bitch’s Happy Hooker book.
Today I found myself wanting to crochet. I found a funky crochet bookmark that I liked.
It is finished in time for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which is out next week.
It was quite a funky pattern and couldn’t resist it. I sat down at about 7pm and have now finished it and it isn’t even 11pm yet!
I used some Patons 100% (mercerized) Cotton DK for it, with a 1.75mm needle. However, I reckon that it was too thick. I reckon that it would be quite a nice way to use up sock yarn. It would be a better weight for it.
The pattern is really easy. As long as you know the basics of crochet then anyone could do it. It comes up really quickly and really nicely and you could alter the pattern so that it is however long or short you want to make it. The pattern states 8 fans but it is easy enough to add or take away repeats.
I shall definitely be making another one. They are quite funky for little presents for people too.
I’ll be back on the knitting again, soon, though. I got disillusioned last night as my garterlac afghan needs frogging
I reckon it is going to turn into a granny square crochet afghan.
That is pretty – it looks as though the page is doing a fan dance
Sorry the afghan had to go, but it does look like you’ve got your crochet mojo on now, so I expect to see masses of fabulous granny squares shortly!
Beautiful and Delicate
Oooh that’s kinda cool! I’m trying so hard not to get the crochet bug… hehe
Wow, it’s gorgeous. I also have the Happy Hooker and haven’t even looked at it yet. I NEED to learn to make that bookmark!
That is a cool bookmark makes me wish I knew how to crochet maybe I’ll teach myself after I am done teaching myself to knit
This is lovely! And so neat too.
Did I remember to say how much I admired this one? It’s *such* a pretty colour, and just gorgeous.
