Yaaaaaay!

Well, the school holidays are now upon us. And they were marked with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows [amazon.co.uk]. Don’t worry, I shan’t put any spoilers here, but those who were expecting a children’s book should think again. It was extremely dark from start to finish. And it was bloody from start to finish, with deaths from the first few chapters. I thought it was extremely well written (for Rowling!) and enjoyed it thoroughly. Best book by far and was read in one sitting. Whoops. But I wanted to read it that way as I didn’t want any spoilers, hence the reason I’m saying nowt here! I will say that the ending was ‘right’. It was satisfactory how it finished. And this pleased me no end. I *did* crochet another bookmark for the event, but didn’t get to use it. Never mind.

This was made using leftover yarn from my Broadripple Socks. The yarn is soooo lovely to work with and it is a good weight for the bookmark. I am really pleased with it.
I have also been knitting some more Fetchings. These are Fetching v2 as I made some before, when I first started knitting properly about 6 months ago. They were made from really scratchy yarn but I really like them so am making them again.

The yarn is some yummy Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran (colourway 300006 Coral) that I got in the John Lewis sale. And it is yummy. I have only knit one mitten so far, but the other won’t be that far behind it – especially as it is a fairly quick knit. But sooooo yummy. And soft! John Lewis sales are really bad. They are fantastic sales but I go in and want to buy so much more than I know I should. They do some ace sales. The Debbie Bliss stuff was less than half price :D
And finally, I have started my colorbar* blanket from The Happy Hooker.

*I have modified the pattern a lot. The finished object will not be in the colours or sequence that the book suggests and the actual squares are 4 rounds, rather than 3. I am also using chunky yarn and an 8mm crochet hook. So, it is an extremely different pattern.
It took me ages to get it right though :/ The book said ‘ch 3 and this will be your first dc, 2dc’. Or words to that effect. And ch 3 as a dc didn’t really work – it was one ch too many. I undid and tried again, and it was still not right. And then I remembered. The book was American. The American dc is the same as the UK treble. A US sc is the same as the UK dc. And once I remembered all that, it was plain sailing. Yaaaay!

Oh man, this is why I cannot crochet! Why is it sooo different across countries? That square sure is pretty though.

I did the same thing with Harry Potter! I think you’re right about the socks. They are set aside, I think it’s my lack of focus on anything knit related causing the problems. Hopefully that will disappear on my commute tomorrow!

Yet again, a lovely book mark. I haven’t got Harry Potter yet, but hope to soon. Have you been to see the film yet? Nice Fetchings to. Very pretty!

  4. The bookmark is lovely—those jewel colours are gorgeous.
You can’t go wrong with Fetchings, especially in the DB Cashmerino. Nice find to get it on sale too; it’s a bit pricey over here.
I’m starting to think I’m the only person left in the world who’s never read any of the HP books….
