FO: Thuja Footsies

Posted By on December 28, 2007

Pattern: Thuja by Bobby Ziegler, as found in Knitty, Winter ’05.
Needles: 4mm DPNs
Yarn: Art Yarns Supermerino in some discontinued shade. Two skeins.
Mods: These were made into footsies. Before turning the heel, I only knit 4 repeats of the pattern. Reason for this? I didn’t think I would have enough yarn!

These were an extremely quick knit done in 2 days. This was down to a number of factors: the socks were with dk yarn, therefore not as fiddly as 4ply; I was housebound due to a hula hooping accident at school, which resulted in a trip to A&E and not being able to put any weight on my right foot!
As you can see, these socks are pool-tastic! My god, did they pool. Moreso on one of the socks but the other was just as bad. I had these skeins in my stash and didn’t know what I was going to do with them. They were originally for proper Thuja but I read the pattern wrong as it required 3 skeins.
These socks are functional, even though they are fugly. They will be used for running about the house, keeping my feet warm in the cold January nights and not much else. The yarn was really nice to use, but the colourway was actually really horrible. Never mind. At least they are out of my stash and being something useful. I suppose that is a good thing!

Can I just ask? What is pooling? It sounds familiar, and I know I should probably know what it means and I know I will probably look stupid for asking what it means but could you give me a gentle reminder? Bet it has an obvious answer….. Very nice foot coverings though and I look forward to the other million photos.
