FO: Babette Blanket

Posted By Laura on March 31, 2008

Pattern: Babette Blanket by Kathy Merrick, as first seen in Interweave Crochet, Spring 2006
Yarn: A mix of Elann Peruvian Highland Wool and Cascade 220 wool
Needles: 4mm hook

Finally! The infamous blankie is finished. And I am in love with it. It is pure wool with a mix of Elann and Cascade. My preference is the cascade but Elann has some wonderous colours. I decided to dc it together, instead of seam it because I much prefer that – I hate seaming and I struggle to get it so that I can’t see it, particularly with so many different colours in the mix. So I decided to abandon that idea altogether and crochet it together with a purple. I love purple, as you can possible guess, and it made it look rather good and unified instead of many different random colours all over the place – it pulled it together well.
The colours, roughly, match the original. The only differences are ones that I changed to make it look more unifed, colour-wise, and towards the end when I was running out of some colours and I didn’t want to buy a whole hank for just 2/3 rounds of a square.
It has come out double bed size, which is just perfect for snuggling up in, and it weighs over 1kg, which is rather heavy. Shame we’ve just changed the clocks into BST, but knowing British summers, I will probably get some use out of it.
I loved the pattern and thoroughly enjoyed crocheting it. The piecing together took forever and it irritated me a bit towards the end, but I wanted to persevere because I loved the blanket so much.
I told my mum yesterday that Elijah Bertie was my favourite knit to date. However, I do think that this blankie overtakes it. Suzy appreciated it too as she decided to sit on it when photos were being taken. David, wonderful husband, coaxed her off with treats though. Bless ‘er :D

    Dear Laura,
It is absolutely Lovely. I thought Bertie was very good but I think the blanket surpasses him.
