Pattern: Uzume by Monkey Toes
Yarn: Jaeger Matchmaker 4ply in some brown colour
Needles: 2.5mm DPNs
This was a Mothers Day knit which was late but I still finished it ages ago. I just haven’t had the time to blog about it yet (sorry, my bad!). And the picture is rather dodgy because my mum had one of the socks already and I didn’t photograph the second.
The pattern is by the late Gigi Silva, aka Monkey Toes. She was the founder of Socktopia who made some absolutely beautiful sock patterns. I am lucky, I have managed to save most of them but now they are offline. She was hugely talented and the Bellatrix socks (named after Bellatrix LeStrange!) are quite high on my to-do list.
Anyway, the mods. There were lots. Instead of a twisted 1×1 rib, I substituted in my default 2×2 rib. I decided to widen the gusset by making a slightly longer heel flap than suggested. I also decided against the pattern down the foot and stuck with plain stockinette. And I decided to knit them on DPNs instead of circs.
This was my first attempt at a lace pattern. I put in lifelines in the second sock as I kept making silly mistakes and frogged lots. The first just flew off the needles. It was a wonderful knit for Torchwood as I could keep concentration on both the sock and the programme quite well. So this sock is my Torchwood sock!
Mum loved the socks as they were the first pair I had ever given her. This was what mattered the most. Even though she got them late!.
I have been rather quiet lately. Not on purpose, mind. My life has been rather hectic. I have loads to blog about but just find myself to tired to, or have no inclination. I have to update about the children’s scarves and I have to update about new techniques that I have found myself trying out. So, all in all, lots to update about and I’ll do it soon. I promise.
Good to hear from you – nice looking sock. Will give out gentle reminders for updates, very gentle, no need to worry….
