SP12 Has Begun!

Firstly, a hello to my secret pal. Looking forward to getting to know you a bit better over the next few months ![]()
A new feature of Secret Pal is a question a week. So I shall start this by answering this weeks question:
What is your favorite summertime drink?
This is a really difficult question.
As a child, I loved ice cream and lemonade drinks. Yummy.
As an adult, I do quite like a nice, cold beer or some Pimms (Pimms o’clock!) in a punch type-y thing. Oooooh, or a Starbucks Frappacinno. Mmmmmm.
Lots of yummy summer-y drinks.
Moving on, as I am salivating …
I was knitting in Starbucks in my local shopping centre today. I don’t often sit and knit in public as I rarely take my knitting out or sit in a coffee shop these days. However, today, I knew that David was going to be late and we had arranged to meet at Meadowhall. Anyway, I am rambling.
I was knitting in Starbucks (currently knitting Percy from knitty) and there was a family beside me. And they were watching me knit. The mum turned to the daughter and commented on how weird it was to be sat in a coffee shop knitting. I was quite shocked but didn’t say anything but carried on knitting. Yes, I don’t see many people knitting in public, but I didn’t think it was that weird anymore to see anyone clicking their needles.
Just felt a bit meh about it. Oh well.
Yum, starbucks frappucino! I love those!
I’d be really annoyed if I heard someone say it was weird to be knitting in public! Especially since I often see people knitting at the local starbucks!
I can’t remember the last time I saw knitters in public. But that’s not really the point. The idea that I am ‘weird’ really irritated me.
At the end of the day, I shall have a lovely bag that I am proud of that is unique to me and not manufactured along with thousands of others. So I am happy
I would have been really hurt and offended. It’s the type of comment and they are the type of people, that are just not worth another thought of yours. Perhaps its because they can’t knit and that they are ignorant? Who knows, but leave them to their own little world where they are must feel safety by making such stupid statements, and ignore their idiotic comments. I would sit and knit with you in Starbucks any time. Don’t let the ignoramusus put you off. Bet they haven’t anyway, eh? You watch, they’ll see somewhere that it’s knitting in public day this week and then they will remember you….. Foooooools!
Do you know, I was expecting the mum to be commenting on how *nice* it was to see someone knitting. I was quite shocked when I read the rest.
I hope she sits on an anthill!
That’s mad… our Wednesday night meetups are actually upstairs at our Starbucks and we don’t get too many looks or comments. I used to knit with a group in a pub with a fairly gothic set of regulars (not the knitters – the other pub-goers) and everyone was really friendly and we never had problems.
