I Hate Noro
Posted By Laura on October 19, 2008
There. I’ve said it. Blasphemy at it’s greatest.
Well, that is a bit of a lie. I dislike Noro Kureyon. I haven’t tried any of the others. It is just too brittle for my liking. I wonder if the sock yarn is just as brittle. I hope not, as I am wanting to try it out. I love the colours
I have been painstakingly making the Noro Hat and finally my circular was too small. I moved onto DPNs and in order to prevent ladders, I was pulling tight at the join. However, the yarn kept breaking. Plenty of spit-splicing later, I got annoyed. It simply wasn’t worth the hassle. And the ladders were still there. So I reverted back to circulars and went for the magic loop method. But, somehow, I ended up with an extra stitch.
That was the final straw. The Noro Hat was no more
I loved the pattern. It was the yarn I hated.
I shall try again with some other yarn at some point.
So, I moved from a hat, onto a cardigan and have just cast on Liesl by Ysolda Teague. I do love her designs. She is one of my favourites
I have been rather quiet recently, and for that I apologise. Life has been rather hectic. School is busy and I have a rather needy class. We had a visit from Prince Andrew recently, so that took a lot of my time too. So yes, with school being so busy, when I come home I don’t knit. I sleep. Oh, and the last couple of days I have been getting the house ready as my parents are coming to visit next week. So yes. Knitting time has vanished. Even though I had a sneak visit to Heath’s Country Store *heart*
Think I shall make a cuppa and carry on with Liesl.
Aww, shame about the hat, i’ve made a few of them! I’ve heard about a new shop nearer to us than Ollerton by the way. I’ve not been yet, just visited their website.
I’m sorry to tell you, but Noro Kureyon sock yarn isn’t much better. I never thought I’d say I hated any yarn. But Noro Kureyon I hate. I’ve heard Silk Garden is better
There is hope!
I’ve knitted socks in the Noro sock yarn and the first one took me three attempts to cast on as it kept snapping. I was unsure about the thickness and thinness about the yarn, but it didn’t snap again, and was even quite good when it got to grafting the toe. I will have to rid the yarn from my memory though, before I knit socks with it again. It was a bit hard going, but yes, lovely colours.

Jules – what is this shop you have heard of?….
Seeing as you said it first, I’ll say it too. I hate it. It’s soooooooo itchy. I love Lizard Ridge and would love to knit it, but there is no similar yarn…..thank god, but shame!!!!
