Knitting Olympics

Well, the Winter Olympics started in Vancouver this weekend and that has also signified the start of the Knitting Olympics, AKA Ravelympics. This was a concept originally created by Stephanie Pearl-McQueen, AKA the Yarn Harlot and has taken over the knitting world. These 2 weeks, many knitters across the world are challenging themselves to achieve different, relevant goals with their craftiness. I didn’t participate last time, but I have decided to challenge myself this time. And I do seem to have challenged myself. Whoops. I think my hands will fall off due to the amount I intend to work my wrists!
This year I have decided to try and finish my stained glass afghan that I started last August. I have decided to do 30 squares instead of the 12 in the pattern (yes, you read right!) I am using DK instead of the worsted that the pattern recommends, so I need to do more squares to make it more of a decent size. I have a lot to do. This is my biggest challenge. I’m not sure how I will do it. But I’ll give it a good go. If I don’t finish, it’ll be ok. I’ll be a tad disappointed but it wouldn’t be the end of the world.
I also have a number of small projects on my list. This is so that I *can* actually finish something and so that when I am really peeved with the afghan I have a small project that is easier to achieve. I have already started one (the afghan isn’t that portable, whereas smaller projects are!)
There are 4 (yup, 4!) little projects that I want to attack. I want to make the Birdie Decoration by Lucy of Attic24; the Naalepuder pin cushion; by Liselotte Weller; a Gevlochten Braided Ball by Marleen Hartog; and a Victorian Memories Bookmark (providing the link works, which it isn’t at the moment!)
So yes, they are all quite small and doable projects. With one massive one.
Wish me luck! I think I need it.
Good luck! xx
We’re all cheering you on!
