Finish Line

Well, the Ravelympics finished on Sunday. It was quite a challenge and I didn’t manage to do everything that I wanted to do. Most notably, the blankie of doom. This was A Challenge. I will admit that. And I worked hard on it. However, it is hard to find time to knit or crochet when you have a baby that is rather ill and needs more mummy cuddles. So, obviously, Baby Girl won. And I’m still plodding along with the blankie and I had to buy more yarn for it today. So yes, here is a progress shot:

Getting there. I’ve nearly made each of the 30 circles into squares, like the above picture and then each square needs another 3 rounds. The blankie then needs to be sewn together and then about 3 rounds on the whole thing. So, yes. Lots of work still to do.
Onto the successes now! I did manage to complete 4 little projects, including an unexpected one.
Firstly, I completed the Braided Ball / Gevlochten. I was really pleased with it.

It was such a cute little knit. I put a disused cat toy in the middle so that it would rattle a bit and then I gave it to Niamh to play with / eat. I think it was a success:

This was made with Patons UK Mercerized Cotton, DK. I made it as the pattern stated, rather than using different numbers of braids and odd stitch numbers, like some on Ravelry did.
Then, I completed the Naalepuder pin cushion. This took a couple of attempts because I wasn’t sure about the colours I was using. I decided to stick with one colour and was really pleased with how it turned out.

I loved the blue and the button really sets it off, IMO. This has also been made with scrap Patons UK Mercerized Cotton, DK. Nice and easy. And it now has some of my pins in it waiting to be used.
The next project I completed was a Birdie Decoration, by Lucy of Attic24 (I’m being lazy and I am not linking but the links are in one of my previous posts).

It’s fairly self-explanatory. A useless item. But really cute. Again, more Patons Cotton.
Finally, I sat down to the ice hockey on the last night, before the opening ceremony and I whipped up these little flowers, which I attached to some little clips. They go well in my hair. I heart them

More Patons Cotton! Great for scraps. I have also devised a flower formula that I may make a page for.
So yes, a semi-successful Ravelympics. I am rather pleased with my finished objects, but disappointed that my blankie isn’t finished. I need to start setting realistic goals, methinks. I am shocking at setting things that are unachievable. Oh well.
Expect some changes on my blog in the next few weeks. I have a gazillion ideas that I want to put in motion. However, as always, time is a big constraint. *sigh* We’ll see what happens.
Also, if my website is a bit slow it is because there is some technical issue that I don’t fully understand. I have been reassured, though, that my husband is working round the clock to fix the issue. I crack a hard whip!
Hey Laura,
Well done! I think you achieved an amazing amount and all so pretty too!
Totally impressed by the braided ball – maybe even enough to have a go myself (but I imagine it is WAY beyond my very limited knitting skills).
Looking forwarded to seeing the blankie when its finished

That braided ball is super! And I loooove the flower hair clips. I did the same thing with some crochet flowers and they’re awesome to wear as hair accessories.

What a very beautiful stained-glass blanket!
Keep up the good work, it’s going to be spectacular!
Gosh, I’m impressed by your output. I’d say it’s more than semi-successful. A x
